Whilst technically Auckland, it certainly feels like sunny (and humid) Northland here at Sawmill Brewery. Sawmill Brewery began its journey in 2004, establishing itself with a commitment to quality brewing and community engagement, quickly becoming a local favourite.

As can be seen in the photos, they brew their own beer here, so it is fresh on tap. Their lineup includes a crisp Pilsner, a hearty Red Ale, and seasonal brews that reflect local flavors, ensuring there’s something for every palate.

The smoko room and outdoor area is where you can enjoy your freshly brewed beer and light snacks from the menu, and even has a fresh smoker running outside. The menu offers delights like smoked lamb shoulder and locally sourced cheeses, perfectly complementing the array of beers available. Sawmill Brewery is dedicated to sustainability, utilising solar energy and sourcing local ingredients to reduce its environmental footprint.

With happy hour running from 3-6pm everyday, it’s a great time to come and relax in the sun. Conveniently accessible with ample parking, the venue is wheelchair-friendly, ensuring a welcoming experience for all visitors.

Wonderful experience at Sawmill. I haven’t been to Sawmill for a few years and was very impressed with the range of new beers they have since I last came.I got a tasting paddle and some light food. My order was taken within a few minutes of sitting down and it was brought out quickly even thought it was clearly busy from the long weekend. The beer was fantastic and the customer service was great. Definitely worth visiting if your a beer lover or just are looking for a cool vibey place to eat and drink.

A totally amazing accidental find. Just driving past as it opened.Fantastic history, great location, exceptional beer, good food and really friendly efficient staff.We have a place like this in the uk 🇬🇧 in York called ‘the brew York’We enjoyed our afternoon here.Thank you.David and Rachel.

Amazing spot for food and drinks!! The food was outstanding (small plates vibes) and they have a great selection of beers from which you can order beer flights which was very fun. Highly recommend the skirt steak skewers, fried chicken and the tomatoes with whipped goats cheese (latter pictured).

Amazing food and a fantastic dining experience. Between the three of us we shared the burrata, beef cheeks, broccolini, tomatoes, flatbread, fries and the corn ribs, followed by the choux buns and custard panna cotta for dessert.We genuinely couldn’t fault a single dish. Everything was perfectly seasoned, came out quickly, and was incredibly delicious. Even my dad - who normally doesn’t like corn - absolutely demolished the corn ribs.We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area.

Sawmill Brewery is a fantastic spot for craft beer lovers. The beers are truly amazing, with a great variety of flavours and consistently high quality that makes the visit worthwhile. The atmosphere is vibrant and enjoyable, and the service is absolutely top notch — the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive. The only downside is that the food portion sizes feel quite small compared to the price. While the food tastes good, slightly larger portions would make the experience even better. Overall, it’s still a great place to visit and deserves a solid 4-star rating.
